FAQs

Choose a camera head that fits the smallest section of pipe you will inspect. Also consider the bends: a smaller head and flexible cable are generally easier to guide through narrow or turning lines.

It depends on the job. A 5 mm cable is more flexible for small pipes and bends, a 7 mm cable balances flexibility and pushability, and a 9 mm cable is better for longer, relatively straight runs.

Measure from the nearest access point to the farthest area you need to inspect. Around 100–165 ft is suitable for many residential jobs, while longer commercial or municipal lines may require 230 ft or more.

Choose self-leveling if you want the image to remain upright while the camera moves. It is especially useful for plumbers, home inspectors, and anyone sharing inspection footage with clients.

The sonde is the transmitter inside the camera head. The handheld locator is used above ground to receive that signal and find the camera’s position. A product with a sonde does not always include the locator.

Yes. That depends on the pipe diameter, bend radius, camera-head size, and cable flexibility. A small camera head with a 5 mm cable is generally better for tight bends, but no camera can be guaranteed to pass every fitting or obstruction.

A compact camera such as the S5517DC is suitable for basic household checks. For smaller pipes that also require self-leveling, distance measurement, or locating, consider a 5 mm professional system.

For regular residential work, prioritize self-leveling, a meter counter, DVR recording, and 512 Hz locating capability. Models such as the S850DSTKM or mobile S860DSTKM suit general professional inspections; specialized jobs may require dual-camera, rotating, or crawler systems.
