Sewer Camera Field Test: Sanyipace’s New Locator Camera Head

    1. Project Overview & Equipment Introduction

We’re planning to install a washer and dryer along this wall in the near future, which requires adding plumbing connections. While water access is conveniently nearby, we need to locate the existing drain line before making any new connections. To help with that, Sanyipace provided us with their newest sewer camera system.

It includes a redesigned camera head with a built-in locator, specifically engineered for fast and accurate pipe tracking. This powerful plumbing camera allows us to inspect the drainage system and pinpoint the pipe's location with minimal disruption — eliminating unnecessary demolition or guesswork.

With this upgraded drain inspection camera, we can identify the pipe route precisely, dig only where needed, and complete the installation efficiently.

    2. Deploying the Sanyipace Sewer Camera: Setup and Initial Pipe Inspection

To begin, we opened a test tee that we had planned to use as a cleanout. Removing the cap at the top was quite difficult — it was a tight fit — but now that it’s out of the way, we can proceed.

We connected the sewer camera system and began recording. As we inserted the camera into the drain, we noticed what appears to be a belly in the pipe — most likely due to back-pitching. Given the condition of the surrounding plumbing, this doesn’t come as a surprise.

    3. Using the Built-In Locator: How This Sewer Camera Traces Underground Drains

Once we had pushed the camera about 8 meters in, we switched to locator mode. The locator attachment process was refreshingly simple — no tools required. A small screw clicks into the camera locator head, and it locks securely with just a press.

To activate the locator, we held the power button until the LED indicator lit up. The system offers two scanning modes:

    • Far Mode: Effective up to 16.5 feet
    • Near Mode: Best suited for depths around 3.3 feet

Since we were working with relatively shallow piping, near mode was ideal.

We turned off the flashlight for better screen visibility and began lowering the sensitivity settings gradually. The signal was strong at level four, and level three gave us the most accurate reading. We marked the exact location directly on the ground — the drain camera’s locator delivered a pinpoint result within minutes.

Final Thoughts on the Sanyipace Sewer Camera System

The entire inspection system was easy to use and performed better than expected. Now that we’ve precisely identified the digging point, we’ll dig a narrow trench from the marked location to the wall, lay the new pipe, and complete the installation cleanly and accurately.

Special thanks to Sanyipace for providing this reliable tool. The plumbing camera made a real difference — and I genuinely enjoyed using it.

I’m leaving the new camera head on my snake for now, since I’ll soon be helping my brother-in-law and sister-in-law with a similar drain tracing project. I’m confident this drain inspection camera will save them time and labor, just like it did for us.

Everything fits neatly into a compact carrying case, making transport and storage a breeze. The only hiccup today? I forgot to bring spare gloves. Other than that, it was a smooth process from start to finish.
