Sanyipace Drain Camera: The Budget Option That Actually Works?

By the way, some of you may remember a couple of months ago I decided to stop doing so many installations. I'm going to focus on my business and continue to do more plumbing maintenance. I've never really gotten into drain diagnostics and maintenance work, but about a month ago, I should say a few weeks ago, I was approached by a company called Sanyipace to try out one of their drain cameras. They kindly sent me a sample. This will be my first step in drain diagnostics and maintenance. Let's go through the process of testing a drain camera on a sewer.

This is the Sanyipace S8417D inspection camera. I'm going to give you an overview of its performance and quality, and then we'll see if there are any problems with these sewers. This is the first time I've used it on a real sewer. It's a 30-meter camera. It's also available in a 20-meter and 50-meter model, and Sanyipace was kind enough to send me the middle model, the 30-meter camera, which is more than adequate for home plumbing inspections.

It has an IPS screen and the picture is excellent. You can see a very clear image of the sewer, and the time and date are also displayed on the screen. The battery shows the remaining time. The charger is located on the insertion side. It comes with a 16 GB SD card.

For now, we just want to shoot some video. Press “OK” and a red blinking recording symbol will appear on the left side. You can see how long we've been recording for. Not only does it record video, it also records audio. The audio is very clear, which is nice. You never know when you're going to need to record sewer sounds. Who knew you could also adjust the LED light on the front of it. Like I said, this is the first time I've used it, so I'm just getting used to it.

When you press it, there's a little delay before it starts to light up. So now you can see that after I pressed it numerous times, it's brightened up again. The camera head comes in a little box with the camera, two shields, the plug charger and some o-rings. The guards clip onto the camera. I find it convenient to put it on top.

The unit itself is made of sturdy metal. The bottom has sturdy plastic feet that are very lightweight. The cage is also made of metal. The reel is a nylon material. I'm not 100% sure what material that is, but the camera head is made of metal. It is also very flexible and great for turning.

The camera will go straight through a 20mm diameter pipe, but it will also go around a 50mm diameter elbow. So it can easily pass through S and P traps in pipes over 50 mm diameter.

Let's try, we're going to put it here, this one on the left hand side goes to the customer's house, this one in front of us I think goes to the whole set of houses on the other side. So let's try and put it in the right place before it starts pouring. Remember, when you're working on the drain, always wear gloves.

We push the camera in and get a very clear image. Importantly, the camera is waterproof, so you don't have to worry about the camera getting damaged if a customer flushes the toilet or if someone flushes the toilet in the street. Let's go a little bit further and see what we can see, you never know you're going to see a mouse down there.

Let's try to move forward with the camera. I didn't know where we were going because it was raining outside and I was soaked to the bone, it was a little hard to operate with one hand. At first impression, it looked really good, a good quality, high-quality camera. I don't need anything fancy or a singing and dancing machine. I just need a basic camera that I can buy to do what I need to do, and this particular model retails for $270, which seems like a great value for money compared to the expensive cameras on the market. As an entry-level camera, I highly recommend it. I'll continue to use it to assist me in the future when I run into some drainage issues, or perhaps a clog somewhere in the underground drainage system.
